Ever since its foundation in 1950, Aoi Company, Limited has been introducing and offering European luxury to clientele with particular tastes. The founder, Shunkai Sakai, carefully selected and only dealt with items of high quality, fashionable designs, and profound values for the merchandising of Aoi even when there was virtually no conception developed for the word, “brand.” What Aoi stands for, All Original Import, has now become the long-standing philosophy and the driving force as a distributor for numerous signature brands to date.
I believe this philosophy is much desired for today’s market in turbulent times with vastly diverse needs. As the precursor of the present select shops, living up to this philosophy, questing for lasting values and attractive merchandising, strengthening relations between our customers and the sales representatives, will be the most important challenge, and it is our promise to you that Aoi Company, Limited returns to the cornerstone in 2007.
All of us at Aoi will undertake anything possible to bring high quality and attractive items to each of our valued customers. As the successor of the founder’s philosophy, and as a long established brand distributor, effective January 2007, we have changed the structure of our organization in order to surely inherit and further cultivate the accumulated knowledge to younger generations. We humbly ask you for your continued support and patronage in the years to come.
President Takashi Oshima

The company has its roots in a tiny store established by Shunkai Sakai in the Center-Gai street of Kobe. Vending diverse imported goods such as LP music records and unusual household gadgets, the company then focused their efforts on women's apparel including undergarments which were considered daring by the nineteen fifties standards of Japan.
In 1960, Sakai and his elder brother embarked upon wholesale trade under a corporation named Nakamura Shoten. The brothers started handling buttons from West Germany, shoes from Italy, beaded bags from the USA and so on.
On April First, 1961, the two brothers founded AOI COMPANY LIMITED, with two men and two women in a cramped office alongside the Tor Road of Kobe. Under the brother’s direction and the passage of more than three decades, the company now employs more than 190 personnel distributing a diverse variety of products. |
